Insight

I have made music my life and my life has made my music. Music is the only language understood by any and everybody any and everywhere. What a thrill it has been to be able to convey every depth and facet of my existence in music across all boundaries. Thank you for sharing my life of music with me.

Red Daze - Eric Muhler

Red Daze features a stellar line-up of the Bay Area’s most creative and talented musicians. The material is all original and was mixed by recording legends Fred Catero and Dale Everingham. Every song features an array of full percussion colors and stunning solo work by masters of their instruments. I’m so lucky to have this recording of these incredible talents interpreting my music.

Other Worlds

Other Worlds

Other Worlds - Eric Muhler

Recorded at Berkeley’s Fantasy Studios on the incredible nine foot Yamaha grand piano, this was my first outing on solo piano and is many people’s favorite rendition of my work. Featuring eight original compositions, three of which are completely improvised, the album features a sparseness and minimalism that I haven’t indulged as much since. With CD cover art shot by my ten-year-old daughter Zoë in the Galapagos Islands, the music is definitely from an “Other World” I was privileged to visit.

Live at the Jazz School - Eric Muhler

When I returned to live performance and recording of my original music I did this show at the Jazz School in Berkeley, California. The audience loved it and the recording of these incredible performances was first rate work by Lee Brenkman, the house engineer. Response to the show and the recording was so positive that it inspired me to keep going writing, recording, and experimenting with different formats for my music.

Something New - Eric Muhler

This live concert recording at Piedmont Piano features the fabulous Fazioli 10 foot grand piano. In my second solo outing I wanted to play some standards by Cole Porter, Horace Silver, Toots Thielmans, and Billy Holiday and pay homage to my teenage roots in blues and boogie woogie. The Fazioli makes it not only possible but almost easy to play anything! Once again, beautifully recorded by Lee Brenkman.

The Jury is Out

Eric Muhler Quartet

The Jury is Out - Eric Muhler

Live is the best way to capture the soul of the music. This show at Berkeley’s Hillside Club features the great acoustics of the room, the wonderful steinway grand piano, and adds the marvelous saxophone work of Sheldon Brown to the fleshed out quartet sound. Bruce Koball captured the performance with all the ambiance of the Hillside Club sound. The set features incredible solos by Michael Wilcox on Fodera bass, and demonstrates Sheldon’s remarkable breadth and range on all the saxophones, particularly soprano and tenor.
